Journal: What’s Next with AI?

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education marks a major shift in how we teach and learn, as noted in the 2024 Educause Horizon Report. This report highlights the importance of finding proper ways to use AI technologies to shape the future of higher education.

In the near future, AI will offer tools that speed up and improve learning. This means moving away from the traditional one-size-fits-all approach to a more personalized, student-focused method. For example, at my school, we use the Classkick app to administer weekly tests, and AI helps with grading, freeing up teachers to focus on other aspects of teaching. AI has also expanded my teaching methods, providing new ways to engage students. During the COVID-19 pandemic, AI was crucial in allowing students to continue learning remotely, keeping them engaged through interactive AI-driven activities.

Over the next five to ten years, I see AI becoming crucial in developing students' critical thinking and decision-making skills. With technology changing so quickly, it's important for education to keep up and adapt. AI can help by offering customized programs for ongoing professional development that meet the needs of the job market.

However, using AI in education comes with big responsibilities. We need to address ethical issues, data privacy, and the digital divide to make sure AI is used fairly. Based on my experience promoting fair educational practices, I am especially aware of how important it is to implement these technologies in a way that benefits all students fairly without making existing inequalities worse.

In conclusion, AI has the potential to make education more engaging, personalized, and accessible. However, its integration needs to be carefully managed. Educators will play a key role in ensuring the ethical use of AI, making sure it enhances rather than replaces the essential human element in education.
