Week 6 - Module 5: Assessment, rubrics and project-based learning

In this module, we had the opportunity to look into "Assessment, rubrics and project-based learning" and share our knowledge. Our task was to explore the advantages of the rubrics and alternative assessment to our lessons. During this process, we also learn how to make our own rubric then shared to our classmates. Most of us using rubistar for creating the rubric, it's really useful. It has all kinds of speaking/ writing activities rubric model to help you. You just need to fix it based on your lesson/ topic which you gave to the students. However, my team mate Ninh also shared another website rubric-maker.

We all see the benefits which it bring to the teachers. Rubrics provide students with clear expectations, help them understand the goals and what is needed to achieve them. Alternative assessments offer learners opportunities to take on responsibilities, manage their learning progress and become self-directed. For instance, self-record keeping enables students to keep track of their own work, and using portfolios allows students to monitor their work and assess their progress. I have also noticed that my students become more responsible for their learning and are able to self-evaluate their work when I assess them by using portfolios and performance evaluations in conjunction with rubrics for grading.

By the end of our discussions, we had a much clearer understanding of how to make a rubric. We then back in the classroom, where each group's moderator presented our findings to the teacher. Our teacher patiently addressed our questions and concluded the lesson on a positive note. I'm looking forward to more engaging lessons like this in the future.
